Job Description

This occupation includes positions which involve technical support work in a pharmacy under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. The work requires application of a practical knowledge of: pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; operation and care of pharmacy equipment; and pharmaceutical procedures and techniques.

Technical and Medical Support Positions encompass jobs that require specialized, practical knowledge and the ability to perform skilled tasked. However, these skills can often be learned on the job or through training when you are hired. In some cases, certifications are required to qualify. Additional education such as an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree will increase starting grade and lead to promotion. Typically promotions are given 1 grade at a time up to a maximum of GS-9.
